Tata, Mahindra, Kia, Maruti, & Hyundai have announced their sales figures for Oct'22 and strong YoY growth can be seen by almost every automaker. Though MoM decline in the sales number is a bit worrying.

Automobile manufacturers have announced sales figures for the month of October 2022. Most automakers have reported strong sales increases as a result of the holiday season and an easing up in the reduction of semiconductor supply. In this article, we present the October 2022 automobile sales figures for Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Mahindra, and Kia.
Maruti recorded a whopping 28.76% increase in October 2022. In the domestic market, the company sold 140,337 units, compared to 108,991 units in the same month last year. Overall sales, including exports and commercial cars, are currently at 167,520 units, up from 138,335 units in October 2021.
Maruti Suzuki sold 98,621 units of the Alto, S-Presso, Baleno, Celerio, Ignis, Dzire, Swift, Wagon R, and Tour S in the micro and compact market. Maruti Suzuki sold 30,971 utility vehicles in October 2021, compared to 27,081 in October 2021. In the UV area, the company currently sells the Brezza, Grand Vitara, XL6, Ertiga, and S-Cross. Maruti Suzuki also sold 1,884 units of the Ciaz and 8861 units of the Eeco Van last month. MSIL exported 20,448 units in October 2021, compared to 21,322 units in October 2021.

Hyundai reported a year-on-year sales increase of 29.66% in October 2022; however, the company's month-on-month sales decreased by 3.42%. Hyundai India sold 48,001 vehicles in October 2022, compared to 37,021 units in the same month the previous year. Last month, the company exported 10,005 automobiles, compared to 6,535 units in October 2022, representing a 53.10% increase in exports year on year.
Mr. Tarun Garg, Director (Sales, Marketing & Service), Hyundai Motor India Ltd., commented on the October 2022 sales, saying, "With the ever-improving semi-conductor situation, we were able to meet the demand of our beloved customers and deliver their favorite Hyundai cars during the festive season in October."

Tata Motors sold 45,423 units in October 2022, compared to 34,155 units in the same month last year. It had a 33% increase in sales year over year. The brand's sales are down 5% month over month. Tata Motors sold 47,000 vehicles in the country, including EVs, in September. Last month, the company's Pune-based facility was scheduled to shut down for preventative maintenance and debottlenecking measures, resulting in a decrease in production.
Tata Motors recorded a whopping 158% year-on-year growth in the EV category. In October 2022, the company sold 4,277 electric vehicles, compared to 1,660 units in the same month last year.

Mahindra has announced a 60.45% increase in sales year over year. In October 2022, the business sold 32,226 utility vehicles, compared to 20,034 units in the same month the previous year. Year-to-date growth for the brand is 78% YOY, with 1,99,278 units sold in FY23 versus 1,12,050 units sold YTD in FY22.

Kia reported 23,323 unit sales in October 2022, compared to 16,331 units in the same month last year. With two months left in the fiscal year, the company has also surpassed the 2 lakh sales barrier. Kia sold 181,583 vehicles in the country by 2021. The company claimed a 43 percent increase over the same period the previous year. Kia has recently begun deliveries of its first electric vehicle, the Kia EV6, in India.
In the month of October, Kia India sold 9,777 Seltos SUVs. The Kia Sonet and Carens have 7,614 and 5,479 units, respectively. The Kia Carnival, the company's premium MPV, has sold 301 units as of October 2022. In fact, 152 Kia EV6s were sold throughout the month and were ready for delivery to customers.
