Get ready for the Ola Electric Motorcycle launch next year! CEO Bhavish Agarwal has confirmed the exciting news. Discover more about this announcement.
Ola Electric has confirmed that its first-ever all-electric motorcycle will be launched in India next year. The announcement was made during a press conference in Mumbai, held by the Board of Directors on the occasion of the recent Ola IPO announcement. Bhavish Aggarwal, CEO of Ola Electric, stated that the electric motorcycles will be available within the first six months of 2025. Additional details about the upcoming models will be shared at an event scheduled for August 15.
Ola Electric, under the leadership of CEO Bhavish Aggarwal, has long expressed ambitions to expand beyond electric scooters. The company aims to cover a broader spectrum in the world of mobility, including electric bikes and potentially electric cars in the future. Currently, Ola Electric has a strong presence in the electric scooter market with models such as the Ola Sl Pro, Ola Sl Air, and Ola SIX. The company is now poised to enter the electric bike market, which is still in its nascent stages with limited players.
During the press conference, Aggarwal revealed that Ola Electric will use EV batteries developed in-house for the upcoming electric motorcycles. He emphasised that these will be the largest batteries seen in an e-motorbike in India. Aggarwal stated, "From 2025, Ola Electric will start using EV batteries developed in-house. Also, within the first six months of next year, we will start selling our electric motorcycles." He also mentioned that electric cars are not currently a priority for Ola Electric.
Bhavish Aggarwal also addressed the growth trajectory of electric vehicles (EVs) in India, countering reports of a slowdown in EV sales. He said, "The potential is very large. I don't see any slowing down of the EV story. You are seeing the incumbents are also joining the party. We are a mission-driven company. Our mission is to make India a global electric vehicle hub."
The Indian electric vehicle market is primarily driven by electric two-wheelers, with electric scooters being the dominant force. Companies like Ola Electric, Ather Energy, and TVS iQube have challenged established players such as Hero, Hero Electric, TVS, and Bajaj.
However, the electric motorcycle market remains relatively small, with players like Oben, Ultraviolette, Revolt Motors, Oben Electric, and Tork Motors vying for attention. Notably, Royal Enfield is rumoured to be developing an all-electric bike, though it is still some distance from launch.
