Ola Electric has showcased a teaser where-in a four-wheeler EV can be seen. The teaser was released on the eve of Diwali and has gained huge traction from enthusiasts.
Highlights
► A new teaser displays a crossover shape; more styles speculated as well.
► The Ola EV four-wheeler will have 'square' steering and digital dials.
► Many vehicle controls are likely to be housed on a large touchscreen.
Ola Electric, another mainstream two-wheeler EV startup in India has released a teaser trailer for their future electric car on the occasion of Diwali. Unlike earlier teasers, which showed several exterior design options, this time the teaser shows us a small glance of the interior.
Ola Electric: Touch Controls and Digital Dials Speculated
Some characteristics of the interior of the Ola Electric car can be seen despite being heavily hidden by shadows. The first thing seen inside the automobile is the steering wheel, which features a two-spoke design with an octagonal centre boss engraved with the Ola emblem. On either side of the spokes, there appear to be lighted touch controls as well as a set of toggle switches. The most intriguing aspect is that the steering 'wheel' appears to be nearly rectangular in shape.
Behind the wheel, there's some interesting blue interior ambient lighting, and a free-standing digital instrument cluster with a digital speedometer readout is positioned farther back. A broader view of the dashboard displays more of its clean, simple design. At the very top, there's a thin strip of ambient lighting, and just ahead of that could be a thin bank of AC vents. There's also a better view of the steering wheel, as well as a large, landscape-oriented touchscreen with a floating design in the centre. There are no further controls or switches visible on the dashboard, which may indicate that all controls are integrated within the touchscreen itself.
More likely to be a Crossover by Ola Electric
The final image of the car shows the exterior from the front, revealing a different look from what we've seen so far, implying that the design has not yet been finalised. It seems to be a crossover with a high-riding vehicle and a relatively upright windscreen. A basic, rounded design, smoothened air 'intakes' low in the front bumper, and a horizontal LED light bar across the nose with the Ola logo in the centre are visual references to prior teases. The headlamp characteristic, which looks to be pairs of stacked horizontal blocks, is new here. The bonnet even has some sculpture, as well as cameras in place of wing mirrors.
At this point, it's unknown whether there will be a single or numerous body designs, with the brand revealing various information via a series of online teasers, the most recent of which revealed a sedan-like model. The car is set to be released in 2024, although technical information are scarce for the time being. We do know, however, that Ola is not targeting the cheap market with its first electric car, instead going premium, with a starting price anticipated to be in the Rs 25 lakh range. It will also most likely use a 70-80kWh battery with a range of more than 500km, a 0-100kph time of less than 5 seconds, and a drag coefficient of only 0.21; however, the latter will most likely be for the sedan model.
This teaser comes on the heels of the launch of the Ola S1 Air, the entry-level model of the brand's electric scooter, whose cheaper price of Rs 79,999 should sway people on the fence about purchasing an EV. The vehicle not only has fewer drive modes, but it also has different foundations and is less in weight. Furthermore, the company has stated its aim to enter the more expensive electric motorbike market, putting an end to the notion that several four-wheeler versions will be available.
However, with established competitors such as the Tata Nexon EV Max, Hyundai Kona Electric, and MG ZS EV likely to be joined by the Mahindra XUV400 and BYD Atto 3, Ola's first four-wheeler offering will have its work cut out for it.
