The wait is over as the deliveries of the OLA S1 & S1 Pro electric scooters will commence from December 15 as confirmed by the CEO Bhavish Aggarwal on Twitter. The CEO wrote “Scooters are getting ready. Production ramped up and all geared to begin deliveries from 15th Dec. Thank you for your patience!”
The OLA S1 & S1 Pro electric scooters were launched with much fanfare on August 15 this year with a token booking amount of INR 499 but the delivery dates have been pushed by OLA from September to October to November and now finally December 15. What will be interesting to see here is the fact if OLA delivers on its promise (literally) or once again the customers are going to be disappointed. OLA has already started test drives for selected customers in 12 cities with more locations to be added soon.
Talking about the OLA S1 & S1 Pro electric scooters, they are based on the Etergo Appscooter by the Dutch company Etergo which was acquired by OLA in 2020. OLA has since changed a few things like the removable battery pack and increased the battery size.
Price and Battery Specifications of the S1 & S1 Pro:
The OLA S1 & S1 Pro cost INR 85,099 AND INR 1.10 lakhs (both prices are ex-showroom Delhi) respectively. The S1 comes with a 121 km claimed range and 90 km/h top speed while the S1 Pro has a claimed range of 181 km and top speed of 115 km/h. There are twin LED projector headlights with a circular DRL, while the S1 comes in five colour options while the S1 Pro offers five additional metallic colours then the S1. There are two modes normal and sports on offer in the S1 and an additional hyper mode to unleash the full power on the S1 Pro.

The battery on the S1 and S1 Pro are 2.9kWh and 3.9kWh respectively with peak power output of 8.5 kW for both. The home charging times vary from 4h 48m in the S1 to 6h 30m in the S1 Pro. Both the electric scooters offer fast charging with a claimed 75km range in 18 mins. The seat height is 792mm and ground clearance is 165mm while the suspension duties are done by a side mounted telescopic front fork and a mono shock at the rear. Both e-scooters ride on 12inch tyres with disc brakes in the front and rear.
Digital Features on Offer on the S1 & S1 Pro:
The e-scooters from OLA comes with a digital 7inch colour touch screen with 3GB in-built RAM which offers Bluetooth, wi-fi and GPS connectivity. Both the electric scooters come with a digital key with proximity lock-unlock feature and receiving calls, messages with the in-built twin speakers in the front. Other common features include side-stand alert, geo fencing, anti-theft alert, reverse mode, remote boot lock-unlock and ore. The S1 Pro offers hill hold and cruise controls as extra features over the S1.
OLA is offering a unique buying experience where it will deliver the electric scooters directly to the homes of the customers and will not have any physical showrooms except, they will have experience centres where the potential customers can come and take test drives of the scooters. Service will be done at home too with the OLA app customers will receive service alerts and can book their service on the app.
Competition for the S1 & S1 Pro:
With the Indian electric two-wheeler space getting crowded due to a lot of Chinese imported products OLA is looking to establish itself as a strong contender with its Indian roots and world’s largest two-wheeler factory but there will be more competition for OLA in the near future with Aether Energy announcing that it is developing a new budget electric scooter and Hero Motocorp due to launch its electric scooter next year. Another start-up Simple Energy is also looking to have bite from the electric two-wheeler pie with companies like TVS and Bajaj already making progress with new products in-line.
For now, the question remains- will OLA deliver its electric scooters on time or will its image take more beating in the process from rivals?
