Porsche confirms the all-electric Cayenne SUV to debut in 2026, as the brand looks to expand its electric vehicle lineup.
Porsche declared at its annual press conference yesterday that the latest all-electric Cayenne is ready to make its debut in 2026. Cayenne will be set to launch two years after the Macan EV, which will be launched in 2024. And the all-electric 718, will launch a year before Cayenne.
Porsche's upcoming all-electric Cayenne, which will be the fourth generation of the SUV, will share the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture with the Macan EV. While Porsche has not released any technical specifications of the electric Cayenne, it is anticipated that it will have a larger battery than the Macan EV's 100kWh unit. However, we will have to wait for official announcements from Porsche to confirm this.
Porsche has announced that they will offer both the Cayenne electric vehicle (EV) and internal combustion engine (ICE) models simultaneously, with the ICE range receiving significant updates including the addition of three plug-in hybrid models that offer a better electric range, on and off-road performance and comfort.
The company reported that they sold a total of 309,884 units in 2022, a 3% increase from the previous year, with the Cayenne being the most popular model, selling 95,604 units. The all-electric Cayenne will be a crucial component in Porsche’s goal of achieving 80% electric vehicle sales by 2030.
Porsche has announced that they will release an all-new, all-electric SUV that will sit above the Cayenne, which will initially serve as the brand's flagship SUV. The company stated that this new vehicle is designed to offer powerful performance, automated driving functions, and a completely new driving experience inside the vehicle while maintaining the typical Porsche design language.
The expansion of the SUV line is a strategic move as SUVs, especially the Macan and Cayenne models, are significant contributors to the brand's sales, accounting for over 50% of the total units sold last year. The company sees growing profit potential in this segment, particularly in China and the US, further reinforcing its sporty luxury positioning. Oliver Blume, chairman of the Executive Board, confirmed this strategy.
Porsche's SUVs are also the top-selling models in India, with the majority of the brand's sales consisting of SUVs. In the past year, Porsche sold a total of 779 vehicles in India, and of those, 399 units were Cayenne SUVs.
