The Indie has two enormous LED headlights up front, some rugged accents, and is advertised as a lifestyle utilitarian scooter.
River has begun selling its first electric vehicle for Rs 1,24,999. (ex-showroom Bangalore). One thing is certain: the e-scooter industry is becoming quirkier, and the Indie's design undoubtedly attests to that.
Here's a closer look at what to anticipate from this brand-new electric scooter that aims to demonstrate other ways to accomplish the same performance and features.
River has decided to follow the "SUV" trend. Those that drive one in crowded cities are aware that they don't "need" one because of the weight; instead, they desire one because it's stylish.
In addition, the styling of the Indie is quite hip. This scooter stands out and is higher than any other e-scoot in the room thanks to its large wheels, which are 14 inches wide on the front and back.
The dual headlights resemble the spotlights on a vehicle used for jungle safaris or perhaps the Yamaha Neos. The large, broad seat, the enormous, LED-lit 42-litre storage compartment under the seat.
The front 12-litre lockable glove box and the pannier stay all significantly contribute to the maxi, SUV vibe. That's a lot more room than even the Ola S1 Pro, which has a 36-litre capacity.
Dual rear preload-adjustable shock absorbers and a telescoping front fork support all of this weight. Also, the tall 14-inch wheels should, in theory, enhance the Indie's ride over our rough roads. Discs at either end of the vehicle serve as the braking mechanism.
The clip-on handlebars are also a sensible concept; they should provide taller riders with enough room for their knees. Ground clearance is a respectable 165mm, and the seat height is reachable 770mm.
The Indie's motor, which boasts peak power of 6.7kW, outperforms both the Ather 450X Gen-3 and the TVS iQube in terms of performance. The claimed top speed of 90 kph and the torque of 27 Nm, however, suggest that River is taking it easy.
Moreover, it only has access to three riding modes: Eco, Ride, Rush, and Reverse. The 4kWh battery capacity of the Indie is the same as that of the Ola S1 Pro.
Yet, River's stated real-world range of only 120 km with a full charge may just be a precaution.
With the normal charger, River claims that the Indie can be fully recharged to 80% in five hours.
Regarding features, the digital instrument cluster includes two USB charging ports (helpful) and a display that adapts to ambient illumination, but what's interesting is the variety of accessories River is promising for the Indie. everything from phone holders to complete pieces of luggage like top boxes and panniers.
Pre-orders for the Indie are available starting today for Rs 1,250 through River's website. And finally, River hopes to start making deliveries in August 2023.
With FAME 2 subsidies included, River has introduced the Indie for an introductory price of Rs 1.25 lakh, ex-showroom Bengaluru.
As of right now, River will only offer sales in Bengaluru and a select few other locations in 2023. Beginning in 2024, River hopes to extend to more cities.
The Ather 450X Gen 3, TVS iQube, and Bajaj Chetak are competitors of the River Indie. What do you think about the styling of the Indie?
