Kia Sonet Facelift has been spotted, check out its spy images of how it looks.
In August 2020, Kia launched one of its top-selling cars, the Sonet, in India with the tagline "The New Badass In Town." Now, Kia is preparing to release a facelift version of the Sonet that will feature a wide range of updates. The 2024 Sonet facelift is expected to compete with popular vehicles like the Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, and Mahindra XUV300.
Recently, the facelifted Sonet was spotted in South Korea, Kia's home market, albeit heavily camouflaged. Despite the camouflage, the vehicle's styling changes were noticeable, such as new headlamps, tail lights, and alloys.
The Sonet is manufactured in India and exported to various markets in Asia, the Middle East, and South America. The test mule spotted in South Korea is likely to have been exported from India, as indicated by the "made-in-India" Apollo tires.
It is speculated that the Kia Sonet facelift is aiming for a sportier appearance. Despite already being one of the good-looking compact SUVs, a refreshed profile is always a welcome change as long as it is tastefully done. Based on Kia's past record, the facelift is expected to jazz up the SUV and enhance its street presence.
A closer look at the Sonet facelift test mule provides glimpses of numerous potential changes. The SUV appears to have a new grille finished in piano black. The headlamps are sharper, and the fog lamp housing seems to have increased in size. The bumper also looks new, with a vertically positioned lighting element placed between the headlamps and fog lamps. It could be LED DRLs or turn indicators.
Although the core silhouette of the Sonet facelift seems to be largely the same as the current model, there could be some changes to the door panelling and body cladding. The alloy wheel design appears to be the same but with a sportier dual-tone finish. The single pane sunroof continues to be offered, just like in the current model. Overall, the Sonet facelift is likely to maintain its good looks while incorporating some exciting new features.
At the posterior end, the recently revamped Sonet appears to have embraced fresh L-shaped tail lamps, reminiscent of those sported by the Seltos facelift. This indicates that the Sonet facelift may also adopt additional design elements from its upcoming Seltos counterparts, such as connected LED units and dynamic turn indicators. Furthermore, the Sonet facelift boasts a novel tailgate design, which flaunts a noticeably flatter profile.
The powertrain options of the Kia Sonet facelift are expected to retain their current form, as per reports. The present Sonet variant offers three engine options: a 1.2-litre MPI petrol, a 1.0-litre turbo petrol, and a 1.5-litre diesel motor.
The 1.2-litre petrol engine generates a maximum power output of 83 PS and a peak torque of 115 Nm, which is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission for a smooth ride. On the other hand, the turbo petrol unit delivers an impressive 120 PS and 172 Nm, available with the choice of either a 6-speed iMT or a 7-speed DCT.
The diesel engine is capable of producing 116 PS and 250 Nm of torque, which can be coupled with either a 6-speed iMT or a 6-speed AT. It is expected that the prices of the upcoming Sonet facelift will remain in the same price bracket as its predecessor, ranging from approximately Rs 8 lakh to Rs 15 lakh, ex-showroom.
