Suzuki has issued a recall for the Fronx compact SUV in Japan, citing a brake caliper issue that could affect safety. Learn about the affected units, potential risks, and Suzuki’s corrective measures.
Suzuki Motor Corporation has issued a recall for the Fronx in Japan due to a critical issue with the rear brake caliper mounting bolts. The recall, filed with Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism, affects 1,911 units manufactured between September 13 and November 8, 2024.
The recall stems from improper tightening of the rear brake caliper mounting bolts during assembly. Due to insufficient torque, these bolts may loosen over time, which could lead to:
The Suzuki Fronx, launched in April 2023, has been a runaway success, with over 200,000 units sold globally. A Baleno-derived crossover, the Fronx has captured attention not only in its domestic market but also internationally, including in India.
In India, the Fronx has emerged as a favorite among buyers in major markets such as Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Kochi, and Bengaluru. It is the only model in Maruti Suzuki’s lineup to feature a turbocharged petrol engine, further boosting its appeal.
The Fronx is available in six variants: Sigma, Delta, Delta+, Delta+ (O), Zeta, and Alpha, with prices ranging from ₹7.52 lakh to ₹13.04 lakh (ex-showroom). The crossover is offered with three powertrain options:
1. 1.0L Turbocharged Petrol Engine
2. 1.2L Naturally Aspirated Petrol Engine
3. 1.2L Petrol-CNG Engine (available in Sigma and Delta trims only)
Suzuki will notify all affected owners, and inspections will be carried out free of charge. The recall underscores Suzuki’s commitment to safety and its proactive approach to addressing manufacturing issues.
While the recall in Japan poses a minor setback, the Suzuki Fronx remains a strong contender in the compact crossover segment. Its versatile engine options, appealing design, and competitive pricing continue to make it a popular choice globally, including in the Indian market.
