Tata's upcoming Curvv: Striking coupe SUV design, ICE and EV options, poised to redefine style and versatility in India's SUV market.
Tata Motors, a leading player in the Indian automotive industry, has recently taken a significant step towards the launch of its highly anticipated SUV, the Tata Curvv. Positioned strategically between the Nexon and the Harrier, the Curvv has been making waves under this name for some time now. Despite initial announcements about its debut as an electric vehicle (EV), Tata has now filed a design patent, suggesting that an internal-combustion engine (ICE) version is also in the pipeline.
The trademark images offer a glimpse into the distinctive design of the Curvv, featuring a coupe SUV layout that sets it apart from traditional SUV styling. Notable is the presence of a front grille, a feature absent in electric vehicles due to reduced airflow requirements. The overall design closely aligns with the concept showcased at the Auto Expo 2023, promising a blend of style and functionality.
Tata Curvv is assured to redefine the mainstream coupe SUV segment in India, challenging competitors such as Creta, Seltos, Grand Vitara, Hyryder, Kushaq, Taigun, Astor, Elevate, and C3 Aircross. Coupe SUVs have gained global popularity, and Tata aims to introduce India’s most stylish mainstream coupe vehicle.
Contrary to early speculations of a stretched Nexon, the leaked design reveals a closer kinship with a hunkered-down Harrier. The front fascia shares similarities with Harrier and Safari, featuring LED DRL signatures, headlights, fog lights, and a distinctive upper and lower grille. Muscular sheet metal profiling, squarish wheel arches, and unique design elements contributes to the Curvv's distinct visual appeal.
The front windshield and A & B pillars borrow design elements from the Nexon but showcase a more muscular sheet metal profiling, lending a broader aesthetic appeal. The inclusion of 17-inch alloys enhances the overall visual impact. Towards the rear, a sloping roofline seamlessly merges into the vehicle's rear, featuring flush door handles and a distinctive glass roof, possibly a fixed glass roof, adding a touch of sophistication.
Tata Curvv is not just about style; it also offers versatility in powertrains. Both an ICE and an EV variant will be available. The Curvv.ev, the electric version, is expected to hit the market first, followed by the 1.5L diesel variant. The 1.5L GDI turbo petrol version may join the lineup at a later stage. Recent sightings of an ICE version undergoing emission testing hint at the imminent arrival of a diesel variant.
The much-anticipated launch of Tata Curvv is projected around mid-2024. Despite the diminishing demand for diesel engines, Tata remains committed to offering a diesel option, catering to enthusiasts who seek a diverse range of powertrains. Competing with rivals like Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, which are the only other contenders with diesel offerings in this segment, Tata Curvv aims to make a significant impact in the competitive SUV market.

With the Tata Curvv, Tata Motors is not only expanding its SUV lineup but is also introducing a stylish and versatile option in the growing coupe SUV segment. The combination of distinctive design elements, powertrain options, and the commitment to offering both ICE and EV variants positions the Curvv as a noteworthy contender in the competitive Indian automotive market. As anticipation builds for its mid-2024 launch, the Tata Curvv is set to make a lasting impression, offering consumers a compelling choice in the ever-evolving SUV landscape.
