Tata Motors' latest OTA update brings crucial ADAS features, Lane Keep Assist, and Adaptive Steering Assist, to the Harrier and likely the Safari.

Tata Harrier OTA Update Unlocks Lane Keep Assist and Adaptive Steering Assist

For its flagship SUVs, the Tata Harrier and Safari, Tata Motors has released a major over-the-air (OTA) upgrade. Lane Keep Assist (LKA) and Adaptive Steering Assist (ASA), two significant safety features included in this upgrade, improve the ADAS suite and make the cars safer and more technologically sophisticated.

Updated Harrier and Safari Features

Although the Tata Harrier and Safari had a full ADAS suite prior to the makeover, several capabilities, such as LKA and ASA, were not available. An important safety improvement is made possible by these characteristics, which enable the steering to maintain the car centred in the lane on its own. The LKA and ASA were still absent despite the latest facelifts that included a number of new features.

That gap is filled by this latest OTA update. A Tata Harrier owner named Prachit Patil posted about his experience on the TATA HARRIER OWNERS CLUB INDIA Facebook page, stating that the upgrade was effective in giving his car LKA and ASA capabilities.

Details of the OTA Update

In addition to LKA and ASA, the OTA update improves the car's infotainment system, FCM (front camera module), and ECU (electronic control unit). It takes around an hour to install. The LKA and ASA functions are now demonstrated through animations and visuals in the revised infotainment system (Version 15.18).
Mr. Patil attested that there were no issues with the infotainment or instrument cluster following the installation. This breakthrough shows how far Tata Motors has come in optimising its electronics and steering algorithms for autonomous assistance functions.

Why the Delay?

At first, the pre-facelift Harrier and Safari didn't have LKA or ASA since they used hydraulic steering. Hydraulic steering systems cannot be accurately adjusted for ADAS suite integration, in contrast to electric steering systems. Tata Motors sought to refine the system once electric steering was added to the facelifted models, which resulted in the current OTA release.

Relevance to the Tata Safari

Given that the Safari and Harrier use the same electronic and mechanical platforms, it is quite probable that Safari users will also receive the OTA update. Both SUVs will provide a comprehensive, contemporary ADAS experience thanks to this feature.
