In order to provide 25,000 XPRES-T electric vehicles, Tata Motors and Uber have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

Tata Motors and Uber will launch 25,000 XPRES-T electric cars

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the car manufacturer Tata Motors and the ride-sharing service Uber on February 20. Over 25,000 XPRES-T Tata Motor Electric Vehicles (EVs) would be made available through the latter's premium category service.

According to a press release from Uber, Tata Motors will help Uber electrify its services in the cities of Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, and Ahmedabad.

This is the largest EV partnership between a carmaker and an Indian ridesharing service to date. As we endeavour to create a sustainable future, it will accelerate the switch to zero emissions on the Uber platform, according to Prabhjeet Singh, president of Uber India and South Asia.

Starting in February, Tata Motors will start making phased delivery of the vehicles to Uber fleet partners.

Tata Motors claims that 50,000 EVs have already been released

According to Tata Motors, its production facilities have so far produced 50,000 EVs for the personal mobility and fleet markets.

According to Chandra, "this alliance will further solidify our market position in the fleet industry."

In 2021, the firm introduced the XPRES electric car brand, which was created specifically for fleet owners. The first vehicle under this brand, the XRES-T EV, has two range options: 277 and 315 kilometres. As fleet operators are its target market, it can charge from 0% to 80% in 59 minutes.

"Uber is dedicated to introducing sustainable, shared mobility to India, and our collaboration with Tata Motors marks a significant turning point in that direction. According to Prabhjeet Singh, head of Uber India and South Asia, it represents the largest EV relationship between an automaker and a ridesharing platform in India to date.

Uber and its driver partners have flexibility because the XPRES-T can be charged using a conventional 15 amp plug point in addition to rapid charging.

Ola's founder and CEO, Bhavish Aggarwal, recently said that the cab aggregator planned to introduce a fleet of 10,000 electric vehicles.

Another taxi company, BluSmart, operates a fleet of 2,200 entirely electric vehicles. It runs in parts of Bengaluru, Delhi, and Gurugram.
