As the first electric vehicle to cross Umling La pass, the Tata Nexon EV Max, the company's long-range electric subcompact SUV, has made it into the India Book of Records.
The Tata Nexon EV Max is the first electric vehicle to traverse the Umling La Pass, making it into the India Book of Records. Umling La pass, the world's highest motorable road, is located in Ladakh and is 19,024 feet above sea level. This accomplishment undoubtedly demonstrates the Nexon EV Max's potential in high-altitude settings. The Nexon EV Max is the extended-range variant of the company's recently introduced in India electric subcompact SUV. On September 18, 2022, a group of experienced drivers set the record after departing from Leh.
"We are thrilled to witness the Nexon EV MAX achieving this remarkable milestone which further demonstrates its capabilities. All Nexon EV MAX users have the freedom to undertake regular and uninterrupted long-distance travel with superior ride & handling. Not only it offers more range and power, but also supports faster charging while improving the overall driving efficiency and further providing an uncompromised EV ownership experience", said Vivek Srivatsa, Head, Marketing, Sales and Service Strategy, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. while speaking about the company's latest achievement.
The Tata Nexon EV Max features a 40.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which is 33% more powerful than the vehicle with the regular range and incorporates the company's Ziptron technology. Using a larger battery allows for a 437 km range that has been approved by ARAI (under standard testing conditions). The battery and motor are IP67 rated and have an 8-year or 160,000-kilometer warranty (whichever comes first). A permanent magnet synchronous AC motor that produces roughly 141 horsepower and 250 Nm of peak torque powers the long-range variant. The electric SUV has an electronically regulated top speed of 140 kmph and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in less than 9 seconds.
With the Nexon EV Max, Tata also provides a slew of intelligent features, like an auto-dimming IRVM, high ground clearance, high water wading capacity, an electronic parking brake, and auto vehicle hold. In order to make adjusting the degree of regenerative braking simple, it also includes a Multi-Mode Regen feature. Based on the driving conditions, there are 4 degrees of regen: Level 0 has no recuperative braking, and the highest Level 3 supports single-pedal driving. According to Tata, this technology adds range to the car when travelling downhill and is especially helpful at high altitudes.
Multiple charging methods are supported by the electric SUV as well. Along with the conventional 3.3 kW charger, a 7.2 kW AC fast charger is available. Using a 15A plug point, the conventional charger will need about 15 hours to fully charge the battery. The AC rapid charger, on the other hand, needs roughly 6.5 hours to do the same task. Additionally, the Nexon EV Max enables DC fast charging up to 50 kW and can fully charge the battery pack in 56 minutes.
