Tata Motors, a leading Indian automotive manufacturer, has unveiled the upcoming Tata Nexon SUV with a revolutionary compressed natural gas (CNG) powertrain at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024. The Nexon iCNG is set to become India's first car equipped with a turbocharged CNG engine, marking a significant stride towards sustainable and eco-friendly mobility.
Tata Motors offered a sneak peek into the Nexon CNG model ahead of its official debut at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024. The showcased vehicle is presented in concept form, revealing the incorporation of Tata's latest design changes introduced in the recent Nexon facelift.
The highlight of the Nexon CNG is the integration of a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, a pioneering move in the Indian automotive landscape. This engine is known for its capability to produce 118 bhp of power and 170 Nm of peak torque. While specific details about the CNG version's output remain undisclosed, it is anticipated to offer impressive performance. The transmission options for the Nexon CNG include both manual and automatic variants.
Tata Nexon CNG will employ Tata Motors' innovative twin-cylinder technology, previously introduced in the Altroz hatchback and Punch CNG models. This cutting-edge technology utilizes two smaller cylinders, each with a capacity of 30 litres, offering improved space efficiency in the rear to accommodate luggage.
In terms of design, the Nexon CNG retains the aesthetic appeal introduced in the facelift version launched during the festive season of the previous year. Notable features include Tata's signature LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL), a connected LED light bar at the front, new headlight and fog lamp casing, and an updated grille and bumper. The rear showcases similar connected LED tail lights, maintaining the overall dimensions of the Nexon facelift SUV.
Tata Motors has not disclosed the specific launch timeline for the Nexon CNG; however, industry observers expect its introduction later this year. Once launched, the Nexon CNG will compete with other CNG variants in the market, such as the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG, as Tata Motors continues to expand its offerings in the growing eco-friendly vehicle segment.
The debut of the Nexon CNG represents Tata Motors' commitment to innovation and sustainability, assisting in a new era of environmentally conscious driving in India.
