Highlights
Tata Motors had a bustling booth at the Auto Expo 2023, thanks to an exciting range of exhibits. The company introduced three SUVs as well as a slew of new variants of its older vehicles.
Tata launched its first SUV car, the Sierra, that initially was launched in 1991. But Sierra has now been given a makeover and unveiled at the Auto Expo 2023.
The car will be an EV SUV and considering its success back in the days, our expectations are high. Everyone seemed excited while it was being launched. And even now, after the launch, it seems to captivate our minds.
So, today we will discuss everything about Tata Sierra EV.
Tata Sierra, the first car from the house of Tata’s that was launched for private transport, was unique and powerful. The body was a 3-door design. It was a rear wheel-drive SUV with 4WD as an option too.
We have to understand, why Tata Sierra EV and its launch is so special?
Well, Tata Sierra definitely has a recall value it seems. I mean people were glued to the concept when it was first showcased in 2020. And again in Auto Expo, you had to be there to see how people thronged to see the unveil. All this hype, and Tata is going to definitely benefit from the word of mouth. But will it live up to the expectations, that will entirely depend on the Tata Sierra EV’s performance.
The front of the SUV is outfitted with a lengthy LED strip that links from end to end. Furthermore, it sports a clean front fascia with no big grilles. It has a huge bumper, a massive silver skid plate, and a giant Tata logo at the front and middle of the fascia.
The new idea is based on Sierra's original rear fixed glass design; however, the fixed glass roof has been replaced with a panoramic sunroof. The B-pillar is body coloured, giving the roof graphic a wraparound look.
It was also revealed that Sierra's design was ready for production - and that the car displayed at the exhibition was a pre-production model. "We've frozen the design already," Martin, Head of Global Design, Tata Motors said. “That is the design I assessed in our design office in Pune," he says.
The Sierra displayed at the Auto Expo did not have concept car tyres, but it has been confirmed that the production-spec Sierra would feature 20-inch alloy wheels.
The Sierra EV will have two cabin seating layouts: a traditional five-seater with adequate luggage room and a rear bench seat, and a four-seater 'lounge' option. The Sierra EV will also come with three different screen sizes to pick from.
The lounge version has what Tata Motors calls a business class layout, and the packaging is designed with chauffeur-driven passengers in mind, so you won't feel like you're sitting in a 4.3-meter car, but one that is 4.5 or 4.6 metres long.
The Sierra.EV concept interior features a futuristic-looking arrangement that is enhanced by a two-tone colour palette. The concept's futuristic appearance includes comfy airline-style chairs and a complete lack of buttons and knobs, which are presented on displays. The majority of the functionality in the production version will most likely be controlled via physical HVAC knobs and buttons. The actual SUV will, however, have the same floating touchscreen, ambient lighting, and layered dashboard design.
The Sierra is going to be predominantly available in front-wheel-drive configuration, whether in EV or ICE form, and while it has not been formally announced, it will very certainly be available with an AWD powertrain as well.
Martin M. Uhlarik, Tata Motors' Head of Global Design, said at the Auto Expo 2023 that the idea displayed at the business pavilion at the event has been completed for production in 2025. The Sierra EV will be available in two years. The prices are yet to be revealed.
