The Hyundai Santa Fe and the Sorento are basically cousins. The Hyundai Sorento is currently in its fourth generation, which was globally unveiled in early 2020. It is positioned between the luxury Telluride SUV and the Kia Sportage (the Tucson's counterpart).Although a launch has not yet been announced, Kia will probably showcase the vehicle to determine whether customers are interested in the three-row SUV.The SUV has, however, already been seen in India; in fact, Kia previously displayed the third-generation Sorento at the Auto Expo in 2018.
Although the fourth-generation Sorento has a familiar Kia family style, it has a considerably more daring appearance than the brand's current lineup of SUVs in India. The distinctive tiger nose grille of Kia blends with the three-pod LED headlights and "tiger eyeline" LED DRLs up front. The front bumper, on the other hand, has a sleek, contoured design with a sizable centre air inlet. The Sorento has a standard-looking profile.
The Sorento sports the traditional tall, upright SUV look in profile, which is emphasised by flared wheel arches. It has a highly contoured tailgate and vertical LED taillamps.
The Sorento's interior is strikingly similar to that of the Sonet in India. It features a 10.25-inch central infotainment screen that is set high, along with vertical AC vents and a row of HVAC controls that are located below. The infotainment screen is coupled with the instrument binnacle, which holds a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, much like the Sonet. Numerous buttons, a rotary dial, a drive selector lever, and storage compartments are all included on the centre console.
Kia, therefore has plenty of features as well. Highlights include the 12-speaker Bose sound system, 64-color ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree cameras, and Kia's UVO connected car technology. In overseas markets, it also receives ADAS features with level-two autonomous driving technology. The Sorento is a three-row SUV with seating for up to seven passengers, which is the most crucial feature.
The Sorento is available with a variety of gasoline and diesel engine configurations worldwide. A 1.49kWh lithium-ion battery powers a 44.2kW (60 hp) electric motor that is mated to a 1.6-liter turbo-petrol hybrid engine. A 6-speed automatic transmission drives the front wheel of the hybrid powertrain, which has 230 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque.Additionally, a 2.5-liter turbo-petrol engine with 246Nm of torque and 191 horsepower is available. It is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and is available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
Kia also provides a plug-in hybrid drivetrain that combines a 13.68kWh battery and 1.6-liter gasoline engine to produce a combined 261hp and 350Nm of torque. This has a 57km electric-only range and only comes with an AWD gearbox and 6-speed automatic transmission. The last engine is a 2.2-liter diesel with 202 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque, an 8-speed automated transmission, and all-wheel drive.
### Kia Sorento competitor in India
The Kia Sorento would compete with vehicles like the Jeep Meridian and Skoda Kodiaq if it were made available in India. The Santa Fe, the Sorento's cousin, won't be returning to India anytime soon, according to Hyundai.
