Paris Motor Show has returned after a 4-year hiatus and it has been graced by various major automakers like Jeep, Peugeot, DS, Dacia, and Alpine. Chinese manufacturers BYD and Great Wall also showcased their concepts and production-ready cars in PMS 2022.
Highlights
► Paris Motor Show is back after 2018
► Jeep, Peugeot, and DS alongside Renault, Dacia, and Alpine are the major attendees.
► French President Emmanuel Macaron visited the Paris Motor Show
This week saw the return of the Paris Motor Show for the first time since 2018, and while it was much smaller than it used to be, there were still plenty of exciting new machines on exhibit - almost all of which were electric.
Here are some of the most intriguing electric vehicles on display at the show, in our opinion.
Renault 4Ever Trophy
Renault's design team has discovered a winning formula for electric vehicles: dust off an old nameplate, pick out some of the best elements of the original model, and then utilize it as the foundation for a new EV. The Renault 4Ever Trophy takes design influences from the legendary Renault 4 and transforms them into a totally modern compact crossover platform.
Of course, because the production model won't be available until 2025, Renault decided to show off its efforts in concept form, which explains the rally raid-ready look of the 4Ever Trophy, which was inspired by a humanitarian rally in which students drive the original 4 machines through Morocco. However, if a roof-mounted spare tyre and a boot lid-mounted spade appear on the production version's options list, we'll be ticking them.

Renault, on the other hand, gets additional points for bringing along the insane Renault 5 Turbo 3E drift car concept. It's essentially what would happen if you encouraged modern internet gaming players to design their own 1980s rally car, and we love it.
Mobilize Solo Concept
Renault's mobility subsidiary, Mobilize, is working on a range of vehicles that will transform the way we navigate around cities. They include the Duo, a quadricycle inspired by the Renault Twizy, and the slightly insane Solo. It may resemble a Dalek that you can sit in, but it is the company's concept for a single-seat e-scooter rival with increased safety.
It's easy to wonder if the Jeep Avenger is a 'genuine' Jeep. After all, the brand is known for vehicles that can tackle the most difficult off-road routes, and the Avenger is a tiny, front-wheel-drive electric crossover built on a base shared with other Stellantis brands like Peugeot and Vauxhall.
But, hey, Ant-Man was little and lacking other superheroes' tremendous strength or magical powers, and he still gets to be a real Avenger - so why can't the Avenger be a proper Jeep? To demonstrate its capabilities, Jeep created the Avenger 4x4 Concept, which previews what a future twin-motor, all-wheel-drive-ready version could look like. Just hand us the keys and point us in the direction of an off-road trail.
The Next Ora Cat
We're not sure why Chinese automaker Ora opted to name all of its vehicles Cat, but we wholeheartedly approve. The company is poised to introduce the Volkswagen ID 3-rivaling Ora Funky Cat in Europe (it's currently available in China as the Good Cat), and it showed off its next car at the Paris show.
And it appears that the next Ora Cat will be... The following Ora Cat. Yes, it's a work-in-progress title, but it's fantastic. The car itself is intriguing: a curved Tesla Model 3-rivaling saloon with a Porsche Panamera vibe about it.
Plus, as we wait for it to be here next year, we may guess its name. In China, it's known as the Lightning Cat, while other Ora models include the Black Car, White Cat, and Punk Cat.
DS 3 E-Tense
While many of the vehicles on show in Paris looked to the future, the DS 3 E-Tense is a machine for today. It's essentially a redesigned DS 3 Crossback, but with a shorter title and a longer range. With a new 54kWh battery, it can go up to 250 miles on a single charge.
The DS 3 E-Tense had its public debut during the Paris event, despite being launched earlier this month during Paris Fashion Week - a reminder that the DS brand is all about being fashionable and stylish.
Alpine A110 e-Ternité
Alpine is a brand that is undergoing an interesting transformation. Its only product since being resurrected by Renault in 2017 has been the relaunched A110 sports vehicle, but it has now become the group's motorsport branch - and is creating an electric-only line-up of performance automobiles.
The striking Alpine Alpenglow concept, which featured a speculative hydrogen powertrain, foreshadowed the brand's future design approach in Paris. Perhaps more intriguing is the Alpine A110 E-Ternité prototype, which is essentially a one-of-a-kind electric conversion of the A110.
Alpine has jammed in battery components from the new Renault Megane E-Tech Electric and a 178kW electric powertrain while keeping the weight down to 1378kg, which is only 258kg more than a combustion-engined vehicle. While the Alpenglow previews the design direction, the A110 E-Ternité is the first glimpse of how Alpine intends to build electric automobiles with sports car characteristics.
