Despite shifting consumer inclinations toward SUVs, hatchbacks had healthy YoY growth in January 2023. Even though it is declining, the hatchback market is still a significant one for India, as seen by the sales in January 2023, according to Tarun Garg of Hyundai.
Here are the top 5 hatchbacks in India in terms of sales as well as a year-over-year increase for January 2023.
In January 2023, the Tata Tiago, the automaker's entry-level model, was the fifth best-selling hatchback. In January 2023, Tata Motors sold 9,032 units of the Tiago, up from 5,195 units in January 2022. This is a high YoY gain of 74%.
Due to its electric, gasoline, and CNG powertrains, the Tata Tiago hatchback appeals to a diverse audience. The Tiago EV is the best hatchback for the city because it is now the cheapest EV in India and comes with two battery packs.
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno, the automaker's high-end hatchback model that competes with the Tata Altroz and the Hyundai i20, will be the fourth best-selling hatchback in January 2023.
With a YoY rise of 141%, Maruti Suzuki sold 16,357 Baleno vehicles last month as opposed to 6,791 units in January 2022.
Sales of the Baleno have increased as a result of the most recent upgrade, which added amenities like a HUD unit and a number of connected car technologies that allow owners to access the car through their smartwatches.
The Swift, a well-liked hatchback from Maruti Suzuki, will follow. The Maruti Suzuki Swift recorded a negative increase of 14% in January 2023, despite the automaker selling 16,440 units of the hatchback. Maruti Suzuki sold 19,108 vehicles in January 2022.
There are CNG variations of the Maruti Suzuki Swift available in addition to the 1.2-litre petrol engine paired with a manual or an AMT gearbox.
One of Maruti Suzuki's first offerings, the Wagon R, has been a major driver of the automaker's sales for many years.
Maruti Suzuki sold 20,466 units of the "tall boy" hatchback this month, compared to 20,334 units in January 2022, indicating a 1% increase. The vehicle has undergone numerous upgrades throughout the years.
Similar to the majority of Maruti Suzuki vehicles, the Wagon R is offered in gasoline and CNG versions, and manual and AMT gearboxes are available.
The Alto, an entry-level hatchback from Maruti Suzuki, will be the most popular model in January 2023.With sales of 21,411 units and a YoY gain of 73% in January 2023, the Alto also wins the title of the best-selling passenger car. 12,342 Altos were sold in January of last year, in contrast.
Due to its new platform, the Maruti Suzuki Alto received a significant design update. The entry-level hatchback is now larger than before.
While Maruti Suzuki offers the Alto with an 800cc engine or a more potent 1.0-litre K-Series unit, with the option of CNG, the new Alto has taken some design ideas from the Celerio.
