Revving up the Indian market: Bajaj takes the reins of Triumph operations. Exciting changes ahead for motorcycle enthusiasts.
The recent news reveals that Bajaj will be taking over all sales and service operations for Triumph in India, as part of the strategic partnership agreement made between the two companies a few years ago. This partnership also involves Bajaj and Triumph working together to co-develop new entry-level mid-capacity Triumph models, which will be manufactured by Bajaj at its Chakan facility.
Following this takeover, Triumph’s India operations will now be under the management of Bajaj’s Pro biking business, which is led by Sumeet Narang. On the other hand, Shoebh Farooq, who previously held the position of the business head for Triumph India, has now transitioned to Bajaj’s electric mobility unit, Chetak Technology Ltd.
In essence, Bajaj's acquisition of all sales and service operations for Triumph in India, and the subsequent transfer of Triumph’s India operations to Bajaj's Probiking business, marks a significant step forward in the strategic partnership between the two companies.
This collaboration will enable Triumph to expand its footprint in India, while also allowing Bajaj to leverage the global reach and brand recognition of Triumph to strengthen its position in the market. Additionally, the co-development of new entry-level mid-capacity Triumph models will likely drive growth for both companies and create new opportunities in the Indian motorcycle market.
As per the latest official announcements, it has been confirmed that the Bajaj-Triumph partnership will release its first new motorcycle model in 2023. The launch of this model is expected to take place in the upcoming few months. The partnership between Bajaj and Triumph involves the co-development of multiple new entry-level mid-capacity Triumph models, with engine displacements ranging from 200 to 700cc.
To accommodate the new range of more affordable Triumph models, the company will significantly increase its dealer network from the current 15 cities to 120 cities over the next two years. The new showrooms are expected to be tiered, with some exclusive to the larger cities and focused primarily on high-end bikes designed solely by Triumph. Check out your nearby bike dealer showrooms.
Meanwhile, other showrooms will be located in tier two and three cities and will likely offer a mix of the larger bikes and smaller models manufactured in India. It is unclear at this point how the distribution of the different models will be decided and spread out across the country.
The recent announcement regarding the partnership between Bajaj and Triumph has clarified that Bajaj and Triumph-branded motorcycles will not be sold together in the same showrooms. Triumph's operations will be kept separate from both Bajaj and KTM. The exclusive nature of Triumph showrooms will not be affected by this new arrangement.
According to the press release, the new showrooms will be designed to match Triumph's global standards. This means that the brand's showrooms will remain true to their unique identity and continue to provide customers with a high-end buying experience.
