Triumph Street Triple R and RS launched in India: Price, specs, features and rivals of the 765cc naked bikes with Moto2-inspired engines and IMU-enabled electronics.
The much-awaited middleweight naked bikes have been launched in India by Triumph, with the R version costing Rs 10.17 lakh and the RS version costing Rs 11.81 lakh.
These Street Triple bikes are powered by a liquid-cooled, 765cc, three-cylinder engine that has been improved with Triumph’s experience from the Moto2 world championship. The engine has new components such as pistons, con rods, shorter intake trumpets as well as a new camshaft and increased valve lift.
This has resulted in a power increase to 120hp on the R and 130hp on the RS. The torque figures remain unchanged at 80 Nm on both bikes. Both bikes have also received changes to their chassis with a steeper rake and shorter wheelbase.
The RS, which is more focused on track performance, has a higher subframe by adding a 20mm spacer on the monoshock. A significant change to the Street Triple R is that it now uses Continental ContiRoad tyres instead of the Pirelli Diablo Rosso III tyres it had before. The RS comes with the very grippy Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP V3 tyres. The R has the same Brembo M4.32 monobloc callipers as before, while the RS has been upgraded with Brembo Stylema units instead of the M50s it had previously.
Both bikes have a lot of IMU-enabled electronics such as multi-level traction control, ABS, a bidirectional quickshifter and multiple riding modes. The R has four riding modes: Rain, Road, Sport and Rider (fully customizable). The RS has one more riding mode: Track, in addition to the others. The Street Triple R has a digital display similar to the Trident, while the RS has a colour TFT dash.
The prices have gone up by around Rs 1 lakh for the R and Rs 50,000 for the RS, which now cost Rs 10.17 lakh and Rs 11.81 lakh respectively.
The Street Triple bikes compete with the Kawasaki Z900 (Rs 9.11 lakh) and the Ducati Monster lineup, which starts at Rs 12.95 lakh for the standard bike and goes up to Rs 15.95 lakh for the higher-spec SP version. The Yamaha MT-09 was shown at a dealer conference a few months ago but there is no word from the company on when it will be launched in India.
