HPCL and EV charging station network Statiq have signed a deal to set up more than 200 EV charging stations across the highways of Uttarakhand, UP and Bihar.
With the rise of EV market in India and petrol prices sky rocketing, there has been a massive demand of a sustainable EV infrastructure in the country. To promote the use of zero emission vehicles the government of India is also taking significant steps such as, subsidising EV buyers, and steadily expanding charging station network all over the country.Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has too jumped on the EV hype train by collaborating with India’s largest electric vehicle charging station network called Statiq. The deal is inked to ensure the establishment of more than 200 charging stations across the busy highways of three major city of north India- Uttarakhand, UP and Bihar. The charging stations will be compatible with EVs of any brands.
The charging stations will be able to charge all type of electric vehicles including 2-3 wheelers and 4 wheelers. Statiq has claimed that the stations can fully charge an electric car under two to three hours. The company has shown immense appreciation towards the central and state government. This project is one of the biggest steps towards the transition from petrol to electric transportation. Statiq will use the vast network of HPCL stations across the highways of these 3 states. The company plans to provide hassle free charging experience to EV user during their long trips. The highways in these particular states are generally busy and get even busier during weekends. Statiq has already set up 600 charging stations across India and by the end of 2022 they plan to establish around 10,000 stations in India. And with evolving technology in the EV space it will be interesting to see if Statiq changes its strategies and business model. Since we know that the battery is swap technology is anticipated to be the prime option for EV powering in the coming years.
