Volvo has launched the XC40 facelift in India at the starting price of INR 43.20 Lakh (ex-showroom). The catch is that the price will increase after the festive season is over and the starting price would be INR 45.90 Lakh.
Volvo has made the XC40 facelift available in India for an initial cost of Rs. 43.20 lakh (ex-showroom, India). However, this is only valid during a brief period during the festive-holiday season; after that, the costs would increase to Rs 45.90 lakh. For comparison, the price of the previous model was Rs. 44.50 lakh.
This mid-life makeover adds revised appearance, extra equipment inside, and most crucially, a new mild-hybrid petrol powertrain. It is only available in a single, fully-loaded B4 Ultimate model. The XC90's infotainment system receives a small upgrade in addition to the XC40.
A 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine and a 48V integrated starter-generator motor are now used to power the upgraded XC40. The engine's output is up 7 horsepower over the previous 2.0-liter motor, which was exclusively powered by gasoline, but its peak torque is fixed at 300 Nm. Only the front wheels receive power from the engine thanks to an automatic transmission with an 8-speed torque converter. As a result, every model in Volvo's lineup in India now has a mild hybrid powertrain.
The front fascia is where the majority of the XC40 facelift's visual improvements are centred. The LED Daytime Running Lamps, which were inspired by Thor's hammer, have also been changed, and the headlamps are now much more angular. The front bumper now has more angular creases and new fog light bezels, but the grille is still the same.
The new Volvo XC40 does not receive the sportier treatment, thus it is missing out on the dual-tone paint scheme and more fashionable 18-inch alloy wheels, unlike the pre-facelift predecessor, which was only available in R-design specification. The new XC40 instead rolls on 5-spoke silver alloy wheels that have a relatively simple appearance. The back end hasn't altered at all, unlike the front fascia.
Little has been done to the inside, though; the dashboard and doors now have new wood trim. The infotainment system has been upgraded with Google's Android operating system to provide a smartphone-like experience, much like all new Volvos. A number of Google apps, including the voice-activated Google Assistant, the Google Play Store, Google Maps, and other Google services, are now included as standard. Also compatible with over-the-air (OTA) upgrades is the system.
A new sophisticated air purifier with PM 2.5 filter, connected Apple CarPlay, a 14-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic warning with front and rear collision prevention, and rear cross-traffic alert are additional features on the revised XC40.
Along with the XC40, the XC90 flagship SUV's infotainment system has been updated with the new Google-powered software. The new XC90 is priced at Rs 94.90 lakh (ex-showroom), which is Rs 1 lakh more expensive than the outgoing model. The new XC90 and the XC40 are the last two vehicles in the Volvo lineup to be equipped with the new technology. Three new paint colours are also available for the XC90: Bright Dusk, Denim Blue, and Platinum Grey.
However, Volvo has quietly stopped selling the XC90's 407 horsepower, 2.0-liter plug-in hybrid petrol model, and it is now only offered with a 300 horsepower, 2.0-liter mild hybrid model.
The refreshed Volvo XC40 remains a competitor to other entry-level luxury SUVs like the Mercedes-Benz GLA (Rs 44.90 lakh), Mini Countryman (Rs 42 lakh–46 lakh), and the recently released Audi Q3 (Rs 44.89 lakh-50.39 lakh). It competes with the currently available BMW X1 (Rs 41.50–43.50 lakh) in India, however a new generation vehicle is anticipated to debut in 2019.
