Citroen confirms August launch for Basalt SUV Coupe in India. The stylish compact SUV will compete with Tata Curvv and other established models in the segment.

Citroen is preparing to expand its Indian line-up with the launch of the Basalt Coupe SUV in August. This new offering, previewed earlier as the Basalt Vision Concept, will enter the competitive compact SUV segment. The Citroen Basalt will share its platform with the C3 Aircross SUV and is expected to be unveiled in its final form in early August, followed by a price announcement later in the month. The launch of Basalt aligns with Citroen's strategy to strengthen its presence in the Indian market.

The Basalt coupe SUV will feature Citroen's signature design elements, including:

  • Two-slat grille with a prominent Citroen logo
  • LED daytime running lights
  • Aggressively styled bumper with large air intakes
  • Coupe-like profile with a receding roofline
  • Raked rear windscreen
  • Flip-style door handles
  • Wraparound LED taillights
  • Squared-off wheel arches for a rugged appearance

The Citroen Basalt is expected to share many interior features with the C3 Aircross, such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless smartphone connectivity, a digital instrument cluster, and automatic climate control.

Powering the Basalt will be Citroen's familiar 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, producing 109 bhp and 205 Nm of torque. It's likely to be offered with both a 6-speed manual transmission and a torque converter automatic option at launch.

The Citroen Basalt will primarily compete with the upcoming Tata Curvv and established compact SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Honda Elevate. The Basalt and Curvv aim to bring a fresh perspective to the segment with their coupe-like silhouette.

Citroen has confirmed that the Basalt will first be sold in India before expanding to other markets, including Latin America. More details about the vehicle's features, specifications, and pricing are expected to be revealed closer to its launch in August.
