Honda surprises buyers by continuing sales of the second-gen Amaze alongside the latest third-gen model. Discover why both options remain available and what each offers.
In a strategic move echoing Maruti Suzuki’s approach with the Dzire, Honda Cars India has announced that it will continue to sell the second-generation Amaze alongside the newly launched third-generation model. Dealers have confirmed that the second-gen Amaze will be available in the S and VX variants, with prices starting at ₹7.71 lakh for the S trim and ₹9.13 lakh for the VX trim (ex-showroom, India).
The recently launched third-generation Amaze, Honda’s flagship compact sedan, has a starting price of ₹8 lakh for the entry-level V variant, going up to ₹10.9 lakh for the top-spec ZX trim. The ZX variant boasts premium features, including Honda Sensing ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) and 15-inch alloy wheels, setting a new benchmark in its segment.
Meanwhile, the second-generation Amaze will cater to both private buyers and fleet operators, unlike Maruti Suzuki’s strategy of targeting fleet buyers exclusively with the previous-gen Dzire as the Tour S. This dual-generation strategy allows Honda to offer more varied options across a wider price range, ensuring greater accessibility for customers.
Both generations of the Amaze are powered by the same 1.2-litre, 90hp petrol engine. However, there are key differences in their transmission options. The third-gen Amaze is available with a five-speed manual or a CVT gearbox, while the second-gen model will be sold exclusively with a manual transmission. This could potentially appeal to budget-conscious buyers who prioritize value over convenience.
In a bid to widen its appeal, Honda is offering the option to convert the second-gen Amaze’s petrol setup to a petrol-CNG configuration through an RTO-approved centre at the dealer level. This move is expected to attract both fleet operators and environmentally conscious buyers looking for more economical fuel options.
Honda’s decision to retain the second-generation Amaze alongside its latest iteration underscores the company’s commitment to serving diverse customer segments. By offering a tried-and-tested model alongside the feature-rich third-gen Amaze, Honda ensures that buyers have a choice between affordability and advanced features.
This strategy is likely to bolster Honda’s presence in the competitive compact sedan market, catering to both premium and budget-conscious segments. With flexible offerings and the added appeal of CNG compatibility, Honda is positioning itself to capture a broader audience.
Honda’s dual-generation approach with the Amaze is a calculated move to maximize its market presence and cater to evolving customer needs. As competition in the compact sedan segment intensifies, Honda’s blend of affordability, advanced features, and flexibility could make the Amaze a compelling choice for a wide range of buyers.
