Mahindra's XUV700 MX Petrol Auto, anticipated price at Rs 15.80 lakh, to offer affordability, essential features, and space, challenging compact SUV competitors.

Mahindra XUV700 Automatic Petrol Base Variant Approved for Launch – Coming Soon!

Key Highlights

  • Mahindra XUV700 MX Petrol Auto variant
  • Competitively priced speculated to be at Rs 15.80 lakh
  • Essential features, spacious interior
  • Challenges compact SUV rivals

In the fiercely competitive mid-size SUV segment, Mahindra is gearing up to shake things up with the introduction of a new MX petrol automatic variant for its popular XUV700. The move is aimed at expanding the customer base by offering a more affordable option, making it a compelling choice in comparison to other compact SUVs.

Current Market Standing

As the second bestselling SUV in the mid-size segment, the Mahindra XUV700 has carved a niche for itself, trailing just behind Scorpio/N. Its main competitors include MG Hector, Tata Harrier, Tata Safari, and Hyundai Alcazar. To capture a broader audience, Mahindra is diversifying its lineup with the MX petrol automatic variant.

Pricing Strategy

As of now, the XUV700 MX base variant is exclusively available with a 6-speed manual gearbox for both petrol and diesel variants. The petrol manual starts at a reasonable Rs 13.99 lakh, and with the upcoming MX petrol automatic, Mahindra aims to maintain an attractive price point, speculated to be around Rs 15.80 lakh.

Potential buyers considering the automatic variant can expect substantial savings with the new MX petrol automatic. Currently, the automatic options start from the AX3 trim, with a starting price of Rs 18.19 lakh. The MX petrol automatic, therefore, offers a savings of approximately Rs 2.40 lakh, but with a compromise on some premium features available in the higher trims.

Feature Comparison

While the AX3 variant boasts premium features like dual 10.25-inch screens, Amazon Alexa integration, and personalized safety alerts, the base MX variant still offers essential features such as an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto, and second-row AC. The compromise in features is an essential consideration for potential buyers.

Potential Impact on Market Dynamics

Mahindra's strategic move to introduce an entry-level petrol automatic variant appears to be a response to market demands. The XUV700 MX petrol automatic is expected to pose a considerable challenge to popular compact SUVs like Creta, Skoda Kushaq, and VW Taigun, offering a spacious alternative at a similar price point.

Market Comparison

The pricing of the XUV700 MX petrol automatic (anticipated at Rs 15.80 lakh) positions it as a direct competitor to the Creta variant priced at Rs 15.82 lakh. Other compact SUVs in its crosshairs include Skoda Kushaq (Rs 15.49 lakh) and VW Taigun (Rs 15.43 lakh). However, more affordable alternatives like Toyota Hyryder, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Honda Elevate may still attract budget-conscious buyers.

CarBike360 Says

As Mahindra prepares to launch the XUV700 MX petrol automatic, the market can anticipate a significant shake-up in the mid-size SUV segment. With competitive pricing and a strategic focus on consumer needs, Mahindra aims to capture a larger market share, challenging the dominance of popular compact SUVs. The impact on sales for both Mahindra and its competitors will be closely monitored as the automotive landscape evolves.
