Maruti's eVX electric SUV, spied with new design elements, is expected to launch by mid-2025, rivaling Hyundai Creta EV and Tata Curvv EV.
New Design Features Revealed
The eVX, Maruti Suzuki's first electric SUV, has been spotted testing once again. This latest sighting, from Southern Europe, reveals new design details of the eVX. The headlamps and taillamps are finally visible this time regardless of heavy camouflage. This near-production model's Y-shaped headlamps have been somewhat modified from the concept shown at the Auto Expo 2023. The Y-shaped tail lamps are modeled after the headlamps, and as seen in the concept, they might have a light bar spanning the tailgate.
Production and Launch Details
The production of the Maruti eVX was initially slated for September 2024 but has now been postponed to February 2025. The eVX will be manufactured in India and exported to Japan and Europe. The delay is due to ongoing challenges with battery supply and software integration. Despite these hurdles, Maruti Suzuki is making progress towards the launch of its first electric SUV.
Rivals in the Electric SUV Market
The Maruti eVX will compete directly with the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV and Tata Curvv EV. The Hyundai Creta EV is expected to launch in January 2025, with production starting at the end of 2024. Meanwhile, the Tata Curvv EV SUV-coupe is set to launch before both the Maruti eVX and the Hyundai Creta EV, adding more competition to the midsize electric SUV segment.
Maruti eVX’s Platform and Design
The eVX’s platform will also be used by Toyota for its own midsize electric SUV, expected to follow the eVX. While the prototype still sports camouflage, the alloy wheels feature a simple multi-spoke design that is likely to change in the production version. The latest spy shots from Motor.es provide the clearest look yet at what to expect from Maruti's new electric offering.
The Maruti eVX is poised to make a significant impact in the Indian electric SUV market. With its new design features and competitive positioning, the eVX aims to challenge its rivals effectively. The upcoming launches in this segment indicate a growing interest in electric vehicles in India.
