BYD India, a prominent player in the global New Energy Vehicles (NEV) sector, has appointed Mr. Rajeev Chauhan as the Vice President of its Electric Passenger Vehicle (EPV) Business. Mr. Chauhan steps into this pivotal role following the retirement of Mr. Sanjay Gopalakrishnan, who leaves behind a legacy of over three decades in the Indian automotive industry, notably establishing BYD India's EV passenger vehicle business.
Mr. Chauhan brings with him a wealth of experience from his extensive career spanning 25 years, including roles at Honda Cars India and Volvo Car India. His expertise spans various domains such as retail network expansion, customer experience enhancement, electrification strategies, direct sales, product development, and digital transformation. In his new role, Mr. Chauhan aims to spearhead BYD India's overall strategy in the electric passenger vehicle segment, emphasizing sustainability and technological innovation. Speaking on his appointment, Mr. Chauhan expressed optimism about contributing to a greener future by making sustainable motoring accessible to Indian consumers.
Reflecting on his retirement, Mr. Gopalakrishnan, the outgoing Senior Vice President, acknowledged his gratification in witnessing the dynamic growth of the automotive industry. He highlighted his pride in retiring at a time when eco-sensitive, sustainable motoring is shaping the future landscape.
BYD's continued success was underscored by its recent inclusion in the top 10 of the 2024 Kantar BrandZ Global Automotive Brands rankings, marking its second consecutive year in this prestigious list with a brand value exceeding US$10 billion. The company's global sales in 2023 surpassed 3.02 million units, contributing to its cumulative sales of over 7.6 million NEVs to date. In India, BYD offers a diverse lineup including the e6 electric MPV, the ATTO 3 electric SUV, and the latest addition, the BYD SEAL luxury electric sedan, featuring advanced technologies like Cell To Body (CTB), ADAS Level 2, and enhanced safety features.
