Discover the Toyota A90 Supra Final Edition, a limited-run, track-focused variant with 435hp and race-inspired upgrades. A fitting farewell to an iconic sports car legacy.
Six years after the A90 Supra made its triumphant return, Toyota has unveiled the Final Edition of its flagship sports car. Marking the end of an illustrious chapter in automotive history, this track-focused variant brings a host of enhancements that underscore the Supra’s racing pedigree while paying homage to its storied legacy.
The Supra nameplate first emerged in 1978 and quickly became synonymous with thrilling performance and cutting-edge engineering. Over four generations, it established itself as a sports car icon, only to be shelved in the late 1990s due to stringent emissions regulations. Its revival in 2019 with the A90 model was spearheaded by Akio Toyoda, Toyota’s chairman and a self-professed petrolhead. “Even though Toyota had no plans to make a new Supra, just like a lot of other die-hard Supra fans around the world, I secretly wanted to make it,” he famously said.
The A90 was jointly developed with BMW, sharing its underpinnings with the Z4 roadster. Both cars are manufactured in Austria by Magna Steyr, blending Japanese styling with German engineering precision.
Limited to just 300 units worldwide, the A90 Supra Final Edition is a track-tuned swan song that elevates the model to new heights. It retains the 3.0-litre inline-six engine from BMW but dials up the power from 383hp to a staggering 435hp. This significant boost is achieved through improvements to the airflow system, revised ECU mapping, a new low-back-pressure exhaust catalyst, and the inclusion of an Akrapovič backbox that amplifies the engine’s roar.
Performance figures remain under wraps, but with the enhanced powertrain, the Final Edition is expected to accelerate from 0 to 100kph in under 4 seconds, making it a serious contender against rivals like the Porsche 911 Carrera.
To ensure the car’s capabilities match its newfound power, Toyota has introduced a slew of upgrades. These include:
The Final Edition’s aesthetics match its performance credentials. Key exterior changes include:
Inside, the cabin is transformed into a race-inspired cockpit. Carbon-fibre Recaro bucket seats, trimmed in Alcantara with red accents for the driver’s side, take center stage. Red seatbelts and carbon-fibre trim elements further distinguish the Final Edition from its standard counterpart.
While the Final Edition marks the end of the A90 Supra’s production, Toyota has also introduced subtle upgrades to the standard 3.0-litre Supra for its final phase. These include refined styling and an optimized differential. Looking ahead, Toyota has assured enthusiasts that the Supra’s legacy will live on through motorsports activities, continuing to hone the car’s DNA on the racetrack.
The A90 Supra Final Edition is more than just a car; it’s a celebration of an icon. With its track-ready upgrades, aggressive design, and nods to its motorsport roots, it ensures that the Supra name bows out on a high note. For collectors and enthusiasts, this limited-run model represents the ultimate expression of Toyota’s engineering prowess and passion for performance.
As the curtain falls on the road-going Supra, one thing is certain: its spirit will endure, both on the track and in the hearts of fans worldwide.
