Toyota shines with hydrogen Mirai and eco Innova Hycross flex-fuel at Bharat Mobility Expo, leading India's green mobility revolution.
Toyota, a pioneer in the automotive industry, has taken center stage at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 in New Delhi, revealing its commitment to sustainable and alternative fuel solutions. The Japanese automaker has displayed a diverse lineup of cars and SUVs, emphasizing its dedication to providing eco-friendly options in the Indian market.
Kicking off Toyota's display is the Mirai, the Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) that runs on hydrogen. A technological marvel, the Mirai has been a global demonstration of Toyota's commitment to cutting-edge solutions, and its presence at the expo highlights the brand's interest in promoting hydrogen fuel cell technology in India.
A star attraction is the made-in-India Innova Hycross, featuring a groundbreaking flex-fuel powertrain. This prototype incorporates a 2.0-litre Atkinson Cycle petrol engine paired with an electric motor, similar to the standard Innova Hycross hybrid. What sets it apart is its ability to run on ethanol-blended petrol, providing exceptionally low hydrocarbon emissions.
Toyota asserts that the Innova Hycross flex-fuel prototype is BS6 Phase II-compliant and can operate efficiently with ethanol blending of 20 percent or higher, aligning with India's current norms. The strong hybrid engine ensures an impressive performance, with 60 percent of the time spent in EV mode, utilizing only the battery pack, and 40 percent from the ethanol-powered engine. This dynamic combination results in the lowest well-to-wheel emissions.
To optimize functionality with ethanol, Toyota has made significant modifications to the vehicle, including water-resistant spark plugs, piston ring tops, valves, and valve seats. The inclusion of a three-way catalyst in the exhaust system further reduces hydrocarbon emissions, showcasing Toyota's meticulous approach to environmental sustainability.
Toyota has gone a step further by presenting a cross-sectional display of the Innova Hycross hybrid. This exhibit highlights common electric powertrain components shared among various Toyota models, reinforcing the brand's dedication to streamlining and integrating eco-friendly technologies across its lineup.
As part of its forward-looking approach, Toyota has hinted at the introduction of its first electric vehicle (EV) for the Indian market next year. This underscores the brand's commitment to staying at the forefront of the evolving automotive landscape and meeting the growing demand for electric mobility.
Toyota's presence at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 showcases a strategic focus on alternative fuel vehicles, with the Innova Hycross flex fuel prototype stealing the spotlight. As the automotive industry undergoes a transformative shift toward sustainability, Toyota stands at the forefront, driving innovation and redefining the future of mobility in India.
