SUVs accounted for a significant share of top-performing models, highlighting a sustained shift in buyer preferences. Innovations in design, features, and powertrains are critical for sustained growth in this segment. On top of that the market preference is more towards SUV. In the recent reports it has been seen that people are not upgrading in larger scale from two wheelers to four wheelers.
Majority of the who are buying new cars have already been driving four wheelers and they are looking out on different options like if someone has already hatchbacks they are going for SUVs. The over all purchasing power has increased only for the upper middle class and above.
Challenges for Hatchbacks and Sedans
Despite their affordability, these segments are increasingly overshadowed by compact SUVs offering similar pricing with greater versatility.
While this data focuses on ICE vehicles, growing interest in hybrid and electric variants like the Toyota Innova Hycross suggests a gradual market shift.
November 2024’s car sales data underscores the continued dominance of SUVs in the Indian market, with several models achieving significant YoY growth. While traditional segments like hatchbacks and sedans face headwinds, manufacturers with innovative and consumer-centric offerings continue to thrive. Future trends may hinge on the adoption of electric and hybrid technologies and the evolving preferences of young, urban buyers.
